Borno Under Siege: Senator Ndume’s Grave Warning

Former Senate Leader Mohammed Ali Ndume has raised urgent concerns about Boko Haram’s resurgence in Borno State, revealing that insurgents have taken control of three local government areas (Gudumbari, Marte, and Abadam) between November 2024 and April 2025.

“We’ve recorded 252 attacks in Borno State alone in six months, with over 100 soldiers and 200 civilians killed,” Ndume told journalists in Abuja. He emphasized that movement has become impossible after dusk across much of the state.

Security Forces Overstretched and Underfunded

The senator painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s security architecture:

• Armed Forces total less than 300,000 personnel for 200+ million citizens
• Police force under 400,000 and poorly equipped
• Security personnel receive just N1,500 daily feeding allowance

“You can’t secure Nigeria with 300,000 ill-equipped soldiers,” Ndume stressed, calling for a state of emergency on security and the economy.

Borno Governor Babagana Zulum criticized Information Minister Mohammed Idris following a deadly Boko Haram attack along the Damboa-Maiduguri Road that killed eight people.

“The Minister doesn’t know what’s happening in the country,” Zulum stated, vowing that Boko Haram won’t regain its former strength under his watch.

Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar praised troops’ resilience during a visit to Maiduguri, assuring them of improved welfare and continued air support against insurgents.
