Analyst Defends Tinubu Against Religious Bigotry Claims Amid US Genocide Allegations
Public affairs commentator Majeed Dahiru has firmly rejected suggestions that President Bola Tinubu could be accused of religious bias, asserting that Nigeria’s leader has demonstrated commitment to tackling security threats affecting all citizens regardless of faith.
Speaking exclusively on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Dahiru argued that President Tinubu’s mobilization of military forces against insurgent groups during his first two years in office contradicts any narrative of religious partiality.
“Absolutely No Basis for Criticism”
“President Tinubu has not by any sense of imagination been accused of religious bigotry or having sympathy with Islamist jihadist terror groups,” Dahiru stated emphatically. “Absolutely not. You can criticise him for every other thing but nobody can actually criticise him for this because he does not qualify for such criticism.”
The analyst elaborated on the Commander-in-Chief’s responsibilities, questioning how any national leader would deliberately permit sectarian violence. “That alone is something to bargain to say, ‘Look, I am the President of this country. I am the Commander-in-Chief. There is no way I will preside over a country and sit idly and allow, encourage the killings of Christians,'” Dahiru explained.
While acknowledging that Christian communities have suffered casualties in ongoing conflicts, Dahiru emphasized that security forces have recorded measurable progress against insurgent groups operating in various regions.
Trump’s Intervention Sparks Diplomatic Tensions
The defense of Nigeria’s leadership comes amid heightened international attention following statements from United States President Donald Trump. On October 31, President Trump declared that Christianity faced an “existential threat” in Nigeria, describing the situation as a “mass slaughter.”
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” President Trump wrote in his official communication.
The American leader announced concrete measures in response, designating Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” and directing Congressional investigation into the matter. “I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter and report back to me,” Trump stated.
President Trump’s declaration included a firm commitment to intervention: “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!”
The Federal Government of Nigeria has consistently refuted claims of systematic religious persecution, maintaining that security challenges affect multiple communities across faith lines and that military operations continue against all militant groups.
