Tinubu Dismisses Claims of Nigeria Becoming a One-Party State
President Addresses APC National Summit in Abuja
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded to critics who claim his administration is steering Nigeria toward a one-party system, stating that people cannot be blamed for their political choices.
Speaking at the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized, “It is only one party that is ruling.”
He further remarked, “For those still contemplating bailing out of their ship, the country is yours—hold on to it. For those talking about a one-party system, it is one party ruling and driving the aspirations of Nigeria. You don’t blame people for abandoning a shrinking ship when they have no life jackets.”
APC Welcomes New Members
The President stressed that no one can be forced to remain in a political party against their will, adding that the APC is open to welcoming more Nigerians who wish to join the ruling party.
“They think this political party is a failure, but with your perseverance, we never gave up. We are the Progressives. We will soldier on. Continue to work hard… I listen to you, not them,” Tinubu declared.
He also encouraged patience among party members, saying, “We have an opportunity to make Africa great, but I urge you to stay the course. To those I cannot offer political positions, be patient—you will be happy to belong to this party.”
Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s constitutional democracy, emphasizing that the APC remains focused on governance and national development.
