Kebbi Court Remands Two Teenagers for Alleged Child Molestation and Threats

Teenagers Remanded for Alleged Molestation of Minors in Kebbi

In a disturbing case of sexual violence, a Magistrate Court in Birnin Kebbi has ordered the remand of two teenagers accused of molesting and threatening minors in separate incidents across Gwandu and Ambursa towns.

Court Proceedings and Charges

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by Magistrate Atiku Abubakar of Magistrate Court 3 following the presentation of charges by Prosecutor Inspector Muhammad Kamba. Both defendants entered pleas during the court session.

First Case: Alleged Rape and Death Threats

The first defendant, identified as Faruq Malami (alias Maibudare), stands accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl named Fatima Abubakar in Dalijan village, Gwandu Local Government Area. According to the prosecution, the alleged crime occurred four months prior to the court hearing.

Inspector Kamba detailed the disturbing allegations: “The defendant not only allegedly raped the minor but also threatened to kill her if she reported the incident. To compound the offense, he reportedly confiscated her mobile phone after the assault.”

The consequences of the alleged attack became tragically evident when medical examination revealed the victim had become pregnant. The charges against Malami include violations of Sections 241, 259, 378, and 138 of the Kebbi State Penal Code Law (as amended), covering sexual violence, threats, and property seizure.

Second Case: Molestation of 8-Year-Old

In a separate but equally disturbing case, the court heard charges against Aminu Abubakar, a resident of Sabon Birnin in Ambursa town. The defendant allegedly molested an 8-year-old girl, Aminat Abubakar, on June 28, 2025.

The prosecution brought multiple charges against Abubakar, including:

  • Gross indecency
  • Criminal intimidation
  • Causing harm
  • Defilement of a child

Legal Consequences and Next Steps

Magistrate Atiku Abubakar ordered both defendants remanded at the Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings. The cases highlight growing concerns about sexual violence against minors in the region and the judicial system’s response to such crimes.

Legal experts note that if convicted, the defendants could face severe penalties under Kebbi State law, particularly given the victims’ ages and the nature of the alleged offenses.

Community Impact and Child Protection

These cases have sparked discussions about child protection measures in Kebbi State. Child rights advocates are calling for:

  • Stronger community awareness programs
  • Improved reporting mechanisms for abuse cases
  • Enhanced support services for victims
  • Stricter enforcement of existing child protection laws

Local authorities have assured residents that they take such cases seriously and will pursue justice for the victims while working to prevent future incidents.
