Lagos, Nigeria – A 16-year-old boy identified as Mustapha was tragically killed by a stray bullet during what began as a peaceful anti-cultism walk in the Oyingbo area of Ebute Metta, Lagos state on Monday, April 21.

How the Tragedy Unfolded

The incident occurred as local youth organized a community walk to address rising cult-related violence in the area. According to eyewitness accounts, tensions escalated after the event concluded when an argument broke out among participants.

A resident who requested anonymity told reporters that the situation turned violent when a suspected cult member drew a firearm and began shooting indiscriminately. Mustapha, who was reportedly not affiliated with any gang, was struck by a stray bullet during the chaos.

“Mustapha just came out to support the walk. He was not part of any gang. He is a calm and respectful boy. He was taken to the hospital after the bullet hit him but he died on the way,” a community member revealed.

Aftermath of the Shooting

The violent incident caused panic throughout the community, abruptly ending the anti-violence initiative. Another youth, one of the event organizers, was also shot and remains in critical condition at an undisclosed medical facility.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigations

As of press time, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The police public relations officer could not be immediately reached for comment on the ongoing investigation.
