The event, dubbed “Reboot STEM 1.0,” brought together key stakeholders under the banner “AI, Robotics and STEM Education for Functional Green Architecture in Osun State.” Organized by the forward-thinking Reboot Academy, the gathering was more than a seminar; it was the launchpad for a strategic, multi-phase initiative aimed at rebuilding the state’s capacity for innovation from the ground up.

Mr. Gbenga Faminu, Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation and a member of the Recruit Creative Hub, articulated the vision with palpable conviction. He outlined a plan that moves beyond mere talk, focusing on actionable collaboration between government, industry, and academia.

“The idea is to drive a strong advocacy that can get people in government, industries, and academia to pay attention to STEM education in Osun State. We are not here to patch up a failing system; we are here to rebirth it entirely,” Faminu stated, his words underscoring the project’s ambitious scope.

A Blueprint for Action: Training, Projects, and Rewards

What sets this initiative apart is its concrete, time-bound strategy. Faminu detailed a structured approach involving a six-month intensive training phase, followed by a six-month hands-on project phase, culminating in a grand showcase in October 2026. “Schools with functional STEM clubs that meet the participation requirements will be eligible, and there are reward packages for these schools,” he added, highlighting an incentive structure designed to foster healthy competition and sustained engagement. He also commended the state’s media houses, whose involvement he described as crucial for disseminating this vision to every corner of Osun, ensuring no young mind is left behind.

Green Architecture: Where AI Meets Sustainable Living

The conversation seamlessly wove technology into the fabric of daily life, particularly through the lens of architecture. Guest speaker Architect Goke Omigbodun delivered a powerful discourse on the role of sustainable design. He challenged the conventional wisdom of construction, urging a paradigm shift towards buildings that actively improve human life without mortgaging the future of the environment.

“Architects should think of activities that make life easier for people while ensuring that future generations live comfortably. That is the very essence of sustainable architecture,” Omigbodun explained. “And this is where AI becomes an indispensable partner. Imagine using technology to optimize building designs for natural light and ventilation, to model energy consumption, or to select locally-sourced, eco-friendly materials. AI can help a lot, especially when architects apply this technology intuitively to their designs.”

Omigbodun didn’t shy away from pointing out the infrastructural gaps that could hinder this progress. He issued a direct appeal to the government, advocating for the establishment of technology hubs across the state, particularly in underserved communities.

“I always believe we should have a lot of tech hubs sponsored by the government,” he said, grounding his argument in a stark reality. “For instance, in Garage Olode, there has been no electricity for the past 20 years. How can we expect young people there to access these global opportunities without fundamental government intervention?” His question hung in the air, a poignant reminder that technological advancement must be inclusive to be truly sustainable.

He left the young participants with a charge that extended beyond the classroom: “These young people inspire me. My advice to them is to be genuinely interested in sustainable development and in all aspects of life, including politics. Nation-building requires their active voice and their skilled hands.”

The impact of the event was immediately evident in the reactions of the attendees. For Gbadeyo Daniella, a student from Osun State Unity School, the program was nothing short of an intellectual awakening.

“To enhance the economy of our nation, it should not just be about money but about providing solutions,” Daniella reflected, showcasing a maturity of thought that aligns with the initiative’s core philosophy. “Before now, we used to think in terms of what we want to become—a doctor, an engineer. But now we are learning to think of the *problems* we want to solve using STEM and AI. We have been enlightened on how to use AI effectively for our own advantage and for the advantage of our communities.”

This sentiment was echoed by Abiodun Idris, an architecture student from Osun State University, who appreciated the organizers for bringing such a creative hub to the state. “This is a great opportunity for young people to learn, innovate, and contribute to sustainable development,” Idris said. “It connects our academic studies to the real-world challenges we see around us every day.”
