A Personal Crusade for the Next Generation

Speaking with evident passion, Governor Adeleke described the initiative as far more than a standard government program. “This project is close to my heart,” he stated. “I see it not just as a programme but as a mission to secure the future of our youths and students. Drug abuse is a threat to that future. It destroys health, families and dreams.”

The Governor acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) but issued a call for intensified action. “Even with these efforts, we can still do more. I urge the NDLEA to strengthen its operations across our borders and communities. Let us ensure that our State is not used as a passage for illicit drugs. We must protect our young people from these dangerous influences.”

He offered concrete government support, adding, “I want to assure you all that my government will continue to support IWADA in every possible way. We will provide the backing and resources needed to take this campaign to every corner of the State.”

Grassroots Impact and Future Plans

In her remarks, Commissioner Adenike Adeleke thanked the Governor for his foundational support. She detailed the program’s tangible impact, revealing that IWADA clubs have been established in all schools visited so far. Educational songs are also being broadcast on radio stations to inform students about drug laws and dangers.

“His Excellency’s objective for this campaign is clear: it’s to highlight proactive intervention,” she said. “The Federal Ministry is proud to partner with NDLEA and Ministry of Education. The next phase is reaching out to communities and door-to-door sensitization by 2026.”

NDLEA Praises Preventative Approach

Barr. Omotosin John, the Zonal Commander representative for Osun and Oyo States, praised the IWADA initiative for bringing “light, protection, and hope to vulnerable youths.”

He disclosed a significant milestone: 5,079 students have been directly enlightened through the program in various secondary schools across Osun State. He commended the partnership between the NDLEA and the state government, emphasizing the critical importance of prevention. “When I heard about IWADA I was encouraged. Prevention is better and cheaper than cure,” he emphasized.
