Federal Government Reports Significant Progress Against Terrorism and Banditry
Abuja, Nigeria – National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has announced that the Bola Tinubu administration has made substantial progress in addressing the country’s multifaceted security challenges inherited in 2023.
Speaking at Thursday’s APC National Summit marking two years of the Tinubu administration, Ribadu detailed how coordinated security efforts have contained atrocities including mass killings, destruction of property, abductions, and attacks on government installations.

Five Major Security Crises Inherited
The NSA outlined five critical security challenges the administration faced upon taking office:
- Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast
- Armed banditry in the Northwest
- IPOB/ESN secessionist agitations in the Southeast
- Niger Delta unrest
- Communal conflicts and herder-farmer clashes, particularly in the North Central region
Significant Security Achievements
Ribadu reported impressive security gains:
- 13,543 Boko Haram elements neutralized
- Over 11,000 arms recovered and destroyed
- 124,408 Boko Haram fighters and family members surrendered
“Operations continue in Tumbuktu Triangle, Tumbu islands and other enclaves to completely eliminate remaining insurgents,” Ribadu added.
Political Leaders Voice Support
Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Tinubu’s security reforms, noting the disappearance of terrorist-controlled territories and foreign flags in Nigeria.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, representing 22 APC governors, moved a vote of confidence in Tinubu as the party’s sole 2027 presidential candidate, acknowledging “evident progress” despite complex challenges.
