Osariemen Unuigbe Makes Nigeria Proud With Academic Excellence
In a remarkable achievement, 18-year-old Osariemen Unuigbe, born to Nigerian immigrants in the United States, has secured admission offers from six prestigious Ivy League colleges. This accomplishment highlights the academic excellence of Nigerian students abroad.
The daughter of Dr. Augustine Unuigbe and Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Unuigbe from Edo State, Nigeria, Unuigbe credits her success to dedication and an outstanding academic record.
“We are elated, surprised, but absolutely delighted. We can only give all the glory to God for this great miracle,” her family remarked.
Academic Achievements and Extracurricular Excellence
A senior at Egg Harbor Township High School in New Jersey, Unuigbe has been accepted into:
- Harvard University
- Yale University
- Cornell University
- Columbia University
- University of Pennsylvania
- Duke University
- Spelman College
- Rutgers University
Beyond academics, she was accepted into the highly selective Governor’s School of New Jersey, holds leadership positions, plays lacrosse, and pursues creative passions including dancing, painting, and drawing.
National Recognition
Unuigbe’s achievements have earned her selection as a 2025 “Rising to the Top” scholar by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Southern New Jersey Chapter.
Growing Trend of Nigerian Academic Excellence
According to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, Nigerian student enrollment in US colleges rose to 20,029 in 2023/2024 – a 13.5% increase. The report notes:
