Nigerian Army Adopts New Techniques and Strategies to Combat Terrorism

COAS Announces Enhanced Tactical Approaches During Combat Training Week

The Nigerian Army has implemented innovative techniques and operational procedures to strengthen its counter-terrorism efforts, according to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.

The announcement came during the firepower demonstration exercise at the 2025 Combat Arms Training Week (CAT) held in Bauchi on Wednesday.

Government Support and Equipment Procurement

Represented by Maj.-Gen. Henry Wesley, Commander of the Ordnance Corps, Oluyede revealed that the Federal Government has acquired new military equipment and weapons specifically designed to combat insurgency and terrorism nationwide.

“President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Army are collaborating to ensure these strategic changes produce tangible results in the field,” Oluyede stated.

Operational Significance of Training Exercises

The COAS emphasized the critical nature of the training event, noting: “We’ve discussed strategies, operations, and tactics – but ultimately their effectiveness is proven at the tip of the spear. This demonstration allows participants to witness our operational capabilities firsthand.”

Oluyede warned that adversaries would “feel the heat” from these enhanced capabilities, confirming that some new equipment is already deployed while additional assets are en route.

Combat Arms Collaboration

Maj.-Gen. Obinna Ajunwa, Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, highlighted how the week-long event served as a platform to address critical issues affecting combat operations. He particularly commended participating officers and retired senior officers who attended the demonstration.

The firepower exhibition showcased the army’s latest operational capabilities being deployed across various theaters of operation.
