NDLEA Intercepts N3.4 Billion Worth of Illicit Drugs in Lagos and Rivers
Massive Drug Seizure and Explosives Uncovered
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking and criminal activities, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs worth over N3.4 billion in Lagos and Rivers states. The agency also uncovered a cache of 942 explosives in a separate operation.
Details of the Seizures
According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the agency recovered:
- 2 million pills of tafrodol 225mg
- 163,000 bottles of codeine syrup
- 1.5 million pills of controlled opioids in Lagos
The drugs were intercepted during joint operations with the Customs Service and other security agencies at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex and the Alaba-Rago area of Ojo, Lagos.
Additional Arrests and Interceptions
In Kaduna, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle carrying 942 explosives concealed in a sack, arresting suspect Nura Sani Muhammad.
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, operatives seized 42 parcels of Canadian Loud hidden in food tins aboard a British Airways flight from Canada. Three suspects, including the receiver Monsurat Lawson, were arrested.
In another airport incident, businessman Bobby Morris Osas was caught attempting to smuggle 8,000 pills of tramadol to Italy.
Major Drug Kingpin Arrested
The NDLEA also announced the arrest of Dominic Chiegozie Obijiaku, a 52-year-old Managing Director of Ovidaq International Ltd, for allegedly importing 2.6 million tramadol pills through Apapa port in July 2024.
