According to police spokesperson Nafi’u Abubakar, the incident occurred in the early hours of July 21 behind the Central Market in Birnin Kebbi. Authorities received a distress call at 8:00 AM reporting a man lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilized a team of officers and local vigilantes to the scene,” Abubakar stated. “The victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.”
Suspect Confesses to Crime
Police investigations led to the arrest of Bello Amakwa, a 30-year-old resident of Birnin Kebbi. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to stabbing the deceased during an argument that escalated around 2:30 AM.
“The suspect admitted to using a knife to stab the victim in the neck following a heated exchange,” Abubakar revealed. “We have recovered the weapon used in the commission of the crime.”
Police Commissioner Issues Warning
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police Bello Sani has used the tragic incident to warn youths against taking the law into their own hands. He emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through proper legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
“This needless loss of life could have been avoided if the parties involved had sought peaceful resolution methods,” Commissioner Sani stated. “We urge all citizens to exercise restraint and utilize conflict resolution mechanisms available through community leaders and law enforcement.”
