Kano State Awards N40.8 Billion in Road Contracts to Transform Transportation Network

Massive Infrastructure Investment Across Kano Metropolis
In a bold move to transform urban mobility, the Kano State Government has approved a staggering N40.8 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 critical township roads across eight local government areas. This ambitious infrastructure initiative targets Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo LGAs – areas that have long suffered from traffic congestion and deteriorating road conditions.
Key Projects in the Development Pipeline
The comprehensive road projects include several high-impact routes that promise to reshape transportation in Nigeria’s second-largest commercial hub:
- Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass: N1.896 billion contract
- Jafar-Madobi Road and Underpass: N1.323 billion investment
- Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road Rehabilitation: N2.014 billion allocation
- Muhammad Buhari Road Rehabilitation: Massive N4.108 billion project
- Airport Road Rehabilitation: N5.956 billion upgrade
Beyond the Metropolis: Connecting Rural Communities
The infrastructure revolution extends beyond urban centers, with significant investments in rural connectivity:
Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi roads: A N13.3 billion project in Rogo LGA that will transform agricultural transportation and market access for rural farmers.
Panda-Hamdullahi-Albasu-Salkwayan Dutse roads: N6.9 billion allocated to improve connectivity in Albasu LGA, facilitating easier movement of goods and services.
Economic and Social Transformation
Commissioner for Information Ibrahim Waiya emphasized that these projects represent Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises while driving economic growth. “These roads have been prioritized based on their economic and social importance,” Waiya stated during a project inspection tour with NUJ National President Alhassan Yahaya.
The commissioner highlighted how the completed projects will:
- Dramatically reduce travel times across the state
- Improve access to markets for agricultural producers
- Enhance road safety and driving conditions
- Stimulate local business activities
- Boost property values in connected communities
Journalists Laud Infrastructure Focus
NUJ President Yahaya commended the Yusuf administration for its visionary approach to development. “These infrastructure projects will serve as catalysts for socioeconomic transformation,” Yahaya remarked, particularly praising the government’s parallel investments in education as complementary development pillars.
The road projects come as part of Governor Yusuf’s broader urban renewal agenda, which seeks to position Kano as a modern, efficient commercial hub capable of attracting investment and improving quality of life for its growing population.
With contractors already mobilized to sites across the state, residents eagerly await the transformation of Kano’s transportation landscape – a change that promises to redefine mobility, commerce, and community connectivity in Nigeria’s historic northern metropolis.
