Kano Governor Appoints New Chief of Staff and Director General of Special Services

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced significant changes to his administration’s leadership team, appointing Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani as the new Chief of Staff for Government House, Kano.

Dr. Sani’s Impressive Credentials
Dr. Sani brings to the position an exceptional background in both medical practice and public administration. With over four decades of distinguished public service, his qualifications include:
- Medical degrees (MB, BS) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
- Advanced diploma from Bayero University, Kano
- Prestigious mni certificate from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Sani served as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters, demonstrating his expertise in government operations and policy implementation.
Extensive Public Service Experience
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Sani has held numerous high-profile positions that showcase his administrative capabilities:
- Director General in the Ministries of Health and Commerce
- Executive Secretary and Permanent Secretary in key state institutions
- Chief Medical Director at major state hospitals including Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital
His contributions extend beyond administrative roles, having participated in over 40 state and national committees while representing Nigeria in various international medical and administrative assignments.

In a parallel appointment, Governor Yusuf has named Major General Mohammed Sani (Rtd.) as the new Director General of Special Services. The decorated officer brings:
- 35+ years of service in the Nigerian Army

- Notable contributions to peacekeeping, conflict resolution, and national security operations

The Governor’s decision to reinstate the Office of the Chief of Staff—after its dissolution in December 2024—reflects an ongoing commitment to enhance governance efficiency and service delivery in Kano State.
