Joint Operation Targets Oil Theft in Niger Delta

The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, has intercepted a truck allegedly loaded with illegally extracted crude oil in Delta State, according to local reports.

The operation, part of ongoing efforts to combat oil bunkering and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region, involved personnel from the 181 Battalion, Nigerian Army, and Tantita Security Services.

Details of the Arrest

The joint team reportedly apprehended the truck at Well 3 in Olomoro, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. The arrest comes as Tantita Security, led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (popularly known as Tompolo), continues its government-contracted mission to combat crude oil theft since 2022.

Truck Driver’s Allegations and Investigation

Local reports indicate the intercepted truck was formerly owned by Engr. Daniel Omoyibo (alias Damotech) and later gifted to driver Matthew Ojomikre, who is currently detained at the Army’s Forward Operating Base in Oleh for interrogation.

During questioning, Ojomikre allegedly claimed his company had been contracted by Heritage Energy Operational Services Ltd to evacuate sludge from Well 3. However, authorities report the driver failed to present proper documentation authorizing the operation.

Ongoing Investigation

A tripartite team comprising Tantita Security Services, the Nigerian Army, and Heritage Energy has reportedly collected samples from the vacuum truck for laboratory analysis. Preliminary statements suggest the driver may have illegally collected crude oil under the guise of sludge evacuation.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s fight against oil theft in the Niger Delta region, where illegal bunkering operations continue to threaten the nation’s economy.
