House of Representatives Summons Benue, Zamfara Governors Over Rising Insecurity
The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has summoned Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, along with their respective state assemblies, to appear before it on May 8 over worsening insecurity in their states.
Petition Triggers Legislative Action
The summons follows a petition by the Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, highlighting the escalating security crises in both states. The governors and assemblies must justify why the National Assembly shouldn’t assume their constitutional responsibilities amid the ongoing violence.
Committee’s Stance on Rule of Law
Committee Chairman Rep. Mike Etaba emphasized through media head Chooks Oko: “Our mandate is to uphold the rule of law. All parties will have fair hearing to clarify these security challenges. We won’t tolerate anarchy in our democracy.”
