Goloka Analytics Partners with Meta to Advance African Language Technology
Collaboration Focuses on Nigerian Local Languages for AI Development
Goloka Analytics, a Dataphyte spin-off specializing in hyperlocal data solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Meta to collect linguistic data in five Nigerian languages. This initiative supports Meta’s Multilingual AI models while promoting digital inclusivity worldwide.
Strengthening Indigenous Languages in AI
As part of Meta’s Local Language Partnership Program, Goloka Analytics will contribute datasets in Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Fulfulde, and Urhobo. The project aims to enhance speech recognition and machine translation systems for underrepresented languages.
Joshua Olufemi, founder of Goloka Analytics, emphasized: “We’re applying our hyperlocal data collection model to provide high-quality linguistic datasets that build more accurate and inclusive technologies. This aligns with our commitment to democratizing data and supporting indigenous languages in digital spaces.”
Ethical Data Collection for AI Localization
The collaboration focuses on:
- Community-validated data collection
- Ethical linguistic dataset creation
- Supporting AI localization in the Global South
Oluseyi Olufemi, Country Lead at Dataphyte, explained: “We’re working with Nigerian universities and language technologists to gather authentic data that will be integrated into broader AI systems, supporting equitable use across sectors.”
Building AI With Communities
The project represents a significant step toward inclusive AI development, ensuring indigenous knowledge and languages are represented in global technology platforms. As Joshua Olufemi noted: “Our goal is not just to build AI systems about people, but to build them with people.”
