Federal and Kebbi State Governments Launch Youth Empowerment Programme (YEIDEP)

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has partnered with the Kebbi State Government (KBSG) to roll out the Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Programme (YEIDEP), a transformative initiative designed to empower young Nigerians aged 18 to 35 through financial support and business development opportunities.
Financial Support for Young Entrepreneurs
During a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed that selected beneficiaries will receive grants ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000. These funds are intended to help young entrepreneurs establish or expand their businesses, fostering economic growth at both individual and community levels.
“This collaboration between federal and state authorities demonstrates our shared commitment to youth development and poverty alleviation,” the Commissioner stated. “By investing in our young people today, we’re building a more prosperous Kebbi State for tomorrow.”

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating: “We urge all eligible Kebbi State indigenes to seize this opportunity. YEIDEP represents more than just financial assistance – it’s a pathway to self-sufficiency, innovation, and meaningful contribution to our state’s economic development.”
Programme Objectives and Expected Impact
The YEIDEP initiative aligns with broader national efforts to address youth unemployment and stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level. By targeting young entrepreneurs, the programme aims to:
- Reduce youth unemployment rates in Kebbi State
- Foster innovation and business development
- Encourage financial independence among young adults
- Stimulate local economies through small business growth
- Develop a new generation of job creators rather than job seekers
This collaborative effort between federal and state governments represents a significant investment in Nigeria’s human capital development, particularly in the northern region where youth empowerment programmes can have transformative social and economic impacts.
For more details about the YEIDEP programme, eligibility criteria, and required documentation, interested applicants are encouraged to visit their nearest registration center starting July 14, 2025.
