EFCC Hands Over 753 Seized Emefiele’s Duplexes to Federal Government

Massive Property Forfeiture Completed
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially transferred 753 duplexes linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Key Details of the Handover
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede presented the forfeited estate to Housing Minister Ahmed Dangiwa on Tuesday. The uncompleted property complex is situated in the prestigious Lokogoma district of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Presidential Directive for Public Benefit
According to an official statement from Minister Dangiwa, President Bola Tinubu has ordered that the recovered estate be completed and made available to Nigerians through transparent allocation processes. The ministry has outlined a comprehensive plan for the property’s development:
- Structural integrity assessments of all buildings
- Completion of outstanding infrastructure including roads and drainage
- Development of standardized housing designs
- Transparent sales process via the Renewed Hope Portal
Legal Background of the Forfeiture
The property represents the EFCC’s largest single asset recovery since its establishment in 2003. The final forfeiture was secured in December 2024 through a court ruling by Justice Jude Onwegbuzie of the FCT High Court.
Emefiele’s Failed Recovery Attempt
In April 2025, the former CBN governor sought to reclaim the estate, arguing that the forfeiture process occurred without proper notice. However, the court dismissed his application, maintaining that the EFCC had complied with all legal publication requirements.
