Ebonyi Police Rescue Kidnap Victim from Hotel Toilet, Foil Armed Robbery in Dual Operations
The Ebonyi State Police Command has demonstrated its crime-fighting capabilities through two successful operations that rescued a kidnapping victim and foiled an armed robbery attempt within 24 hours, according to official statements.
Hotel Toilet Rescue Operation
In a dramatic rescue on November 13, police operatives freed Thank-God Obasi, a kidnapping victim who had been tied up and abandoned in a hotel toilet in the Ezzangbo area of Ohaukwu Local Government. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦5 million before police intervention.
Through what police described as “diligent intelligence gathering,” officers tracked the kidnappers’ hideout and successfully rescued Obasi without incident. Three suspects—Uchenna Ogbozuru, Ebuka Ejiogu, and Chizoba Idenyi Ogwa—were arrested during the operation and remain in custody pending investigation and prosecution.
Concurrent Armed Robbery Foiled
In a separate incident on November 12, police patrolling along the Ehamufu-Nkalagu Road in Ishielu Local Government Area responded to gunshots and distress screams. Officers discovered three armed robbers attempting to dispossess Ali Solomon of his motorcycle.
“Upon sighting the police, the hoodlums opened fire and fled,” said SP Joshua Ukandu, Police Public Relations Officer for the Ebonyi Command. “The operatives returned fire, neutralizing one of the suspects and recovering one AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.”
Broader Security Implications
These coordinated successes come amid ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s southeastern region. The operations demonstrate improved police responsiveness and intelligence capabilities in Ebonyi State, which has faced various security threats ranging from kidnapping to armed robbery.
Police Commissioner CP Adaku Uche-Anya reiterated the Command’s “unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents and ensuring that criminal elements had no hiding place within the state.”
The back-to-back operations highlight the multifaceted nature of security challenges facing law enforcement in the region and the police’s evolving tactics to address both kidnapping-for-ransom schemes and violent armed robbery attempts.
