Sokoto, Nigeria – Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have apprehended a suspected kidnap kingpin, Sani Galadi, at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport in Sokoto during a routine Hajj screening exercise.

The suspect was reportedly arrested around 11:15 am on Monday while undergoing final security checks before departure for Saudi Arabia. According to security sources, Galadi had been under surveillance by intelligence officers prior to his capture.

A senior security official confirmed the arrest, stating: “Yes, one Galadi was arrested today at the terminal when undergoing final screening before departure for Saudi Arabia.”

Recent Pattern of Arrests

This arrest follows closely on the heels of another high-profile capture – a wanted kidnap kingpin was detained at the Hajj camp in Abuja less than 24 hours earlier. The suspect had been declared wanted for alleged involvement in multiple kidnappings across Kogi State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Security Concerns Raised

The incidents have raised serious questions about how such wanted individuals manage to obtain travel documents and pass through multiple security checkpoints undetected. When questioned about this security lapse, a DSS source redirected responsibility: “You can find out from those agencies,” referring to passport and immigration authorities.

The source added: “What I know is that Galadi has been taken into custody and he’s providing necessary answers to questions. He will have his day in court when the investigation is completed.”

As of Tuesday morning, neither the Sokoto State government nor relevant security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the arrest.
