Borno Governor Condemns Recent Boko Haram and ISWAP Attacks
Zulum Expresses Sympathy for Victims, Vows Continued Support Against Insurgency
Maiduguri, Nigeria – Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has strongly condemned the recent wave of attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents across multiple communities in the state.
The governor expressed deep sympathy for families affected by violent incidents, including an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion on May 12 along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road that claimed the lives of two education staff members.
Tragic Losses in Ongoing Conflict
“The IED attack killed two staff members of the Damboa Local Education Authority who were traveling to Maiduguri for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria examination,” Zulum stated through his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya.
The governor also mourned military personnel and civilians killed in recent violence across Marte, Chibok, Gwoza, Kala Balge, and other affected areas.
“These acts of terror are deeply condemnable. The recent tragic loss of our education staff, gallant troops, and innocent civilians is a painful reminder of the challenges we continue to face,” Zulum emphasized.
Commitment to Security and Resilience
Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting federal security efforts: “I am more determined than ever to support the military, security agencies, and our volunteer forces in the fight to end terrorism and insurgency in our state.”
The governor referenced his recent visit to Gwoza, where he engaged with security forces and the Izge community to reinforce counterinsurgency measures and civilian resilience.
Message of Hope and Determination
“The recent surge in attacks will not deter our resolve to tackle the scourge of the 16-year-long insurgency,” Zulum declared. “I urge the people of Borno to remain resilient and prayerful. This is a partial eclipse and we shall overcome it, Insha Allah.”
The governor concluded by extending prayers to bereaved families, the wounded, and all citizens affected by the violence.
