Dogon Ruwa Community Raided as Armed Men Loot Shops

Plateau State, Nigeria – A group of armed bandits launched a brazen attack on the Dogon Ruwa community in Bashar district, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, abducting five traders during a market operation.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers not only kidnapped the traders but also ransacked multiple shops and business centers, stealing large quantities of food supplies and medical provisions.

Market Day Chaos

The Dogon Ruwa market, known for attracting hundreds of visitors from neighboring communities, offers various food items including flour, rice, beans, beverages, and other essential supplies. The bandits reportedly timed their attack to coincide with peak market hours.

Shapi’i Sambo, a local youth leader in Wase, described the terrifying scene to Daily Trust: “They arrived around 11 am on motorcycles when residents and visitors were busy with transactions. The sudden attack forced everyone to flee the market and their homes.”

Targeted Operation

“The bandits nearly surrounded the entire community and began shooting indiscriminately,” Sambo continued. “Some went straight to the market where they abducted five shop owners. We believe they specifically chose market day to steal food supplies.”

Local security forces, including military personnel and vigilante groups, have reportedly been mobilized to track the bandits to their hideouts. However, Major Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, had not responded to media inquiries about the incident at the time of reporting.

Growing Security Concerns

This latest attack adds to the growing security challenges in Wase, particularly in Bashar District, where bandit raids have become increasingly frequent. Local residents report regular incidents resulting in loss of lives and property.

Community members have issued urgent appeals to security agencies for increased protection, describing bandit attacks as a near-daily occurrence that threatens their livelihoods and safety.
