2027 Election: SDP’s Adewole Adebayo Hints at Stepping Down for Peter Obi
Opposition Forces Align Against President Tinubu
Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant political development, Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has indicated his willingness to potentially step down for Labour Party’s Peter Obi in the 2027 elections.

Opposition Coalition Takes Shape
During an appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ program monitored by Legit.ng, Adebayo revealed that serious discussions are underway among opposition figures aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu through democratic means in 2027.
“I like what he (Obi) is doing. He is serious-minded. He is having meaningful discussion, quiet discussion, honourable discussion,” Adebayo stated.
When directly asked about stepping down for Obi, Adebayo responded: “That will come later, but from what I see, I like what he’s doing.”
Peter Obi’s Vision for 2027
The Labour Party candidate has emphasized that his participation in opposition coalitions isn’t about personal ambition but about addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
“I’m in coalition against hunger, a coalition against poverty, a coalition against ill health. Politics for me is not about positions, it is about doing the right thing,” Obi recently stated.

Opposition Parties Unite Under ADC
Recent reports indicate that Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai have adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their coalition platform. The leaders established committees to finalize the alliance’s structure during a high-level meeting on May 20.
This political realignment represents a critical moment in Nigeria’s democratic development as opposition forces consolidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
