12-Year-Old Amazing-Grace Salami Makes History as Nigeria’s First Entrant in Scripps National Spelling Bee
In a groundbreaking achievement for Nigeria, 12-year-old spelling prodigy Amazing-Grace Ahuoyiza Ebiebi Salami is set to become the first Nigerian to compete in the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The young scholar earned this historic opportunity after winning the inaugural Spelling Bee In Nigeria (SpIN) competition.
A Historic Milestone for Nigeria
Salami, a student at Greenpath Preparatory School in Abuja, will represent Nigeria at the 100th edition of the renowned competition. This marks Nigeria’s debut appearance, joining Ghana as only the second African nation to participate in the nearly century-old event.
Meeting with NiDCOM Leadership
Prior to her journey to the United States, Salami visited Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), at their Abuja headquarters. The young champion expressed her excitement about competing internationally and connecting with peers worldwide.
“I am grateful for the immense support I’ve received and I promise to represent Nigeria with pride and excellence,” Salami stated.
