Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 presidential election, expressing hope for a stronger strategic relationship aimed at ending Russian aggression against Ukraine.
In a statement on his X account Wednesday morning, Zelenskyy praised Trump’s “peace through strength” approach, which he believes could advance a “just peace” in Ukraine.
“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his impressive election victory!” Zelenskyy wrote, recalling a previous meeting in September where they discussed the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership, the Victory Plan, and strategies to end Russian aggression.”
Zelenskyy expressed optimism that Trump’s leadership would create bipartisan support for Ukraine and achieve European peace.
Zelenskyy added, “Ukraine, as one of Europe’s strongest military powers, is committed to ensuring long-term peace and security in Europe and the Transatlantic community with the support of our allies.”
Trump’s return to office has stirred international interest, with Ukraine hopeful that a renewed alliance could bolster its defences and bring stability to the region.
