President Tinubu Approves Resumption of Oil Exploration in Bauchi and Gombe States
Key Regulatory Licenses Granted for Kolmani Project
President Bola Tinubu has authorized the restart of oil exploration activities in Bauchi and Gombe States, three years after the initial launch of the Kolmani Integrated Development Project by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, confirmed that Tinubu has approved all outstanding critical regulatory licenses needed to advance the Kolmani project.
Background on the Kolmani Project
First inaugurated in November 2022, the Kolmani Integrated Development Project marked the beginning of oil exploration in Northern Nigeria. The project is located in the Kolmani River II oil field, a border community spanning Bauchi and Gombe states.
This development follows last week’s announcement by NNPC Group Chief Executive Bayo Ojulari that the state-owned energy company would resume drilling operations in the oil field.
Federal Government’s Commitment to Energy Sector Development
Speaking during the commissioning of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy’s permanent site in Alkaleri LGA, Lokpobiri emphasized the administration’s focus on transforming Nigeria’s oil sector:
“President Tinubu’s approval ensures all necessary regulatory licenses for the Kolmani project are now in place. His vision remains centered on harnessing our energy sector’s full potential as a driver of national prosperity.”
Bauchi State’s Role in Human Capital Development
The minister praised Bauchi State’s establishment of the Oil and Gas Academy, noting it positions the state as a key contributor to developing the skilled workforce needed to power the sector.
Lokpobiri added: “Given our vast fossil fuel reserves, we continue to prioritize human capacity and technological advancement. We expect the Bauchi academy to partner with PTDF to ensure long-term sector sustainability.”
State Government’s Commitment
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed appreciation for federal support and reaffirmed the state’s dedication to the academy’s success:
“This institution will serve as a foundation for skill acquisition and innovation that will benefit not just Bauchi State but the entire nation.”
