Tension as gunmen kill APC councillorship candidate in Ogun – The Sun Nigeria

Tragedy hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State yesterday as gunmen killed its councillorship candidate in the forthcoming local government election, Adeleke Adeyinka.

The 40-year-old politician who was the councilorship candidate for the Ward 15, Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was reported to have been shot dead around 12:00p.m at the Jide Jones Area of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The assailants, according to an eye-witness, had arrived at the scene of the incident in a tinted car, alighted from the vehicle and shot him at close range.

He was later hit with a huge stone till he finally gave up the ghost.

Before his demise, Adeleke, who was a former APC Youth Leader in Abeokuta South LG prior to his nomination as a councilorship candidate of the party, was reported to be a member of a transport union at the Panseke Area of Abeokuta.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, said that the incident occurred at 12:30p.m.

She said that the perpetrators of the crime who came in an unregistered Toyota Corolla sports car fled the scene to an unknown location.

“A shooting incident and murder occurred around 12:30p.m .

”A concerned citizen reported that unknown individuals, believed to be cultists arrived in a Toyota Corolla sports car, armed with a pump action shotgun and a pistol.

”The assailants opened fire, killing the deceased, who was left dead at the scene before the perpetrators fled to an unknown location.

”Another individual, Adesanya Adeyinka requested the body for burial without seeking a doctor’s examination or autopsy,” she said in a statement she signed on Saturday evening.

The police spokesperson explained that investigation had commenced, assuring members of the public of routine patrol.

Odutola stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing assailants.
