South East Governors to Endorse Tinubu for 2027 Re-election, Says Umahi

Regional Summit Planned for Formal Endorsement

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that all governors from Nigeria’s South East region have resolved to endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 elections.

According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, the governors plan to convene a regional summit to formalize their endorsement of President Tinubu.

Infrastructure Development Drives Support

Mr. Umahi highlighted the current administration’s infrastructure projects in the South East as a key factor in the governors’ decision:

“Under President Tinubu, at least four federal projects are ongoing in Ebonyi State. The Igbo man is enterprising and blessed with God-given wisdom. What Ndi Igbo seek is fairness, a Nigeria that treats every zone equally. That is what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing.”

Key Projects Transforming the Region

The Minister listed several transformative projects underway:

  • Port Harcourt to Enugu road
  • Enugu to Abakaliki road
  • Enugu to Onitsha road
  • Onitsha to Owerri road
  • Second Niger Bridge (30% payment already made)

Call for Political Unity

Mr. Umahi extended an invitation to opposition figures in the region to join the endorsement:

“Leadership is not about self—it’s about the people. I call on my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to join us and work with Mr. President. He must be part of this summit where we will collectively endorse President Tinubu for the 2027 election.”

Coastal Highway Update

The Minister also provided an update on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, revealing that a section is nearing completion and will become a toll road starting in December 2024.
