Lagos State government has advised residents to eat healthy diets to keep fit.
Medical Director, General Hospital, Somolu, Dr. Mustapha Quadri, stated this during a free medical outreach programme organised by the hospital recently in commemoration of Y2024 World Diabetes Day.
He told participants to know their numbers so as to lower their risks of becoming diabetic, emphasised that it is important for people who are hypertensive to go for medical care, as in most cases, they have the diabetes mellitus disease without knowing it.
According to him, this would help erase the possibility of having eye diseases.
He harped on the need for sufferers to live a healthy lifestyle in order to manage the disease, said it is not a death sentence.
Speakers emphasised the importance of diabetic patients eating healthily to keep fit and strong. They advised participants to always keep fit by exercising their bodies as well as taking their medications religiously for their well-being.
Earlier, the hospital organised an awareness campaign on major streets in Somolu to educate the citizenry on the importance of healthy living.
It included free medical screening for diabetes mellitus, blood sugar, blood pressure and HIV.
The hospital also gave them free medications, lectures on diabetes and well-being as well as free medical consultations, among others.
The theme for this year’s World Diabetes Day Celebration is “Diabetes and Well-being.”
