Tinubu Directs Military Overhaul, Boosts Firepower to Combat Rising Terror Threats

President Orders Comprehensive Security Review Amid Rising Terror Attacks
President Bola Tinubu has mandated an immediate restructuring of Nigeria’s security framework, authorizing enhanced military strategies and additional weaponry acquisitions to counter escalating terrorist activities, particularly in northern states.
The decisive action followed an emergency security council meeting at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, where security chiefs presented alarming reports on worsening violence in Plateau, Benue, and Borno states.
Military Receives Presidential Approval for Equipment Upgrade
Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa revealed that President Tinubu expressed grave concerns about the security deterioration, linking it to expanding terrorist operations across the Sahel region.
“The global surge of terrorist and jihadist activities across the Sahel has now reached Nigeria through our porous borders,” General Musa stated during the press briefing.
The Defence Chief confirmed presidential authorization for:
- Procurement of advanced air assets
- Acquisition of ground military equipment
- Enhanced cross-border cooperation
Beyond Military Action: A Holistic Security Approach
While emphasizing the importance of military reinforcement, General Musa stressed that sustainable security requires comprehensive strategies:
“Kinetic operations alone won’t solve this crisis. The non-kinetic dimension remains equally critical to our success.”
The administration plans to implement a whole-of-government approach involving:
- Collaboration with state governors
- Grassroots development initiatives
- Equitable distribution of democratic benefits
“President Tinubu intends to engage governors to ensure local communities directly benefit from governance, which will help address underlying insecurity causes,” Musa added.
