Strengthening National Security

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu praised the NAF’s commitment to national security and assured continued federal support for defense modernization. The President highlighted the Air Force’s operational excellence across Africa, describing it as “a cynosure of operational excellence” and national pride.

“Today’s ceremony marks another milestone in our unwavering commitment to strengthen our Armed Forces,” President Tinubu stated. “This acquisition, alongside platforms such as the Diamond-62 surveillance aircraft and T-129 ATAK helicopters, underscores our resolve to prioritize fleet modernization.”

Security as Top Priority

The President emphasized that security remains a top priority of his administration, aligning with the eight priority areas of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He declared, “Neither economic prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity. Therefore, the Nigerian Armed Forces must intensify efforts to conclusively defeat the enemies of our collective progress.”

Highlighting the strategic importance of the induction, Tinubu noted, “This ceremony is not merely about adding new helicopters; it’s a strategic statement of intent to defend our nation and reinforce Nigeria’s leadership in Africa.”

Modernizing Air Force Capabilities

Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, described the induction as a major milestone in the Service’s drive to modernize its fleet. “The dynamic security landscape demands an agile, well-equipped Air Force,” he said. “The Agusta 109 Trekker will strengthen our multi-domain operational capability and enable efficient mission delivery.”

The versatile helicopters are expected to support joint operations, air reconnaissance, close air support, and humanitarian missions. The ceremony concluded with a symbolic flypast and inspection of the new aircraft by government and military officials.
