Presidency Condemns Unauthorized 2027 Campaign Billboards for Tinubu and Shettima

Billboards Spark Concerns Over Premature Campaigning

The Nigerian Presidency has officially distanced itself from unauthorized campaign billboards promoting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 elections. These billboards, appearing in major cities including Abuja and Kano, feature images of the President and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Official Statement Denounces Early Campaign

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued a strong statement titled ‘Presidency Disclaims 2027 Campaign Billboards Nationwide’. The statement emphasized that Nigeria’s electoral laws strictly prohibit premature campaigning for future elections.

No Authorization from Presidency

The Presidency clarified that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima authorized or endorsed any political campaigns for 2027. Officials expressed concern that such premature campaigning could undermine electoral integrity and create unfair advantages.

Call to Cease Campaign Activities

“We urgently call on individuals and groups funding this 2027 political campaign through the ongoing deployment of materials on billboards nationwide to cease immediately,” the statement declared. The Presidency warned that such actions violate electoral laws and disrupt the political process.

Focus on Current Governance

The statement reaffirmed that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain focused on fulfilling their current governance mandate, prioritizing national development over future political ambitions.
