As Nasarawa State approaches the 2027 gubernatorial elections, political activity is intensifying, marked by strategic alignments, zoning debates, and heightened public expectations. For many, the election is a critical opportunity to address the state’s pressing challenges and chart a new course for development and inclusion.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, nearing the end of his second term, remains a pivotal figure in shaping the election narrative. During a recent public event in Lafia, he stated, “My priority is to ensure that Nasarawa remains on the path of progress. The APC must present a candidate who will build on our successes and unite the state.” This has fueled speculation about his potential successor within the APC.
Dr. Faisal Shuaib, whose contributions to healthcare and humanitarian causes have earned him national acclaim, is considered a top contender. Speaking at a community health event, Shuaib said, “Leadership is about service, and Nasarawa deserves a leader who prioritizes the well-being of its people. I am committed to making a difference where it matters most.”
Another figure generating buzz is Senator Aliyu Wadada, who has been tight-lipped about his rumored defection from the SDP to the APC. In a recent statement, he remarked, “For me, it is not about political platforms but about delivering results. Nasarawa deserves leadership that listens and acts decisively.”
Within the opposition PDP, internal challenges have sparked concerns. One party chieftain, who preferred anonymity, warned, “We need to resolve our differences before the primaries. A divided house cannot stand against the APC’s political machinery.” However, the PDP remains optimistic, with stakeholders emphasizing the need for grassroots mobilization and strategic alliances.
The clamor for zoning has gained traction, particularly from Nasarawa West, which argues for its turn to produce the next governor. “Zoning is a question of fairness and inclusion. Our region has contributed significantly to the state, and it’s time for our voices to be heard,” said Adamu Alheri
On the issue of Youth and Women Participation, it is on record that the youth, representing over 60% of the population, are demanding greater inclusion in governance. In the area of the economic Development and Infrastructure, electorates are vocal about the need for improved infrastructure and job opportunities. “Our roads are terrible, and our schools are underfunded. The next administration must tackle these problems head-on,” said Musa Galle, a community leader in Nasarawa Eggon.
For Security Concerns, it is no longer news that Insecurity remains a significant concern for residents, particularly in rural areas. Abdullahi Yusuf, a farmer in Awe, lamented, “We live in fear of attacks. The next governor must prioritize security and protect farmers like us who feed the state.”
According to some political observers, Federal policies under President Bola Tinubu’s administration are expected to influence voter sentiment in Nasarawa. While some commend the administration’s push for economic reforms, others express concerns over their impact on the cost of living.
“Tinubu’s policies will either strengthen APC’s chances in Nasarawa or provide ammunition for the opposition. It all depends on the next two years,” observed Dr. Madaki Williams, a lecturer at Taraba State University.
A social media influencer and market trader in Karu, Amina Usman stated that the 2027 elections are not just about political parties but about who can deliver on the people’s aspirations. “We need a governor who will unite us, develop our communities, and provide opportunities for the youth,”
Political analysts predict a fiercely contested election, with both the APC and PDP working to outmaneuver each other. However, the electorate is becoming increasingly discerning, and public sentiment will play a crucial role in shaping the outcome.
As the clock ticks toward 2027, one thing is clear: the people of Nasarawa State are ready for leadership that listens, acts, and delivers.
