A pressure group in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Concerned PDP League, has faulted the position of the party Board of Trustees (BoT) in the tussle over the position of national secretary.

The group, at a press briefing, in Abuja, on Friday, said the BoT erred by recognizing former national youth leader of the party, Sunday Ude-Okoye, as the authentic national secretary.

The PDP national secretary position has being in a contest between Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu. However, the BoT, last week, adopted the recommendation of its panel that interfaced with the disputants that the former youth leader be recognized as national secretary based on the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division.

The Court of Appeal had on December 20, 2024, affirmed the nomination of Ude-Okoye by the South East chapter of the PDP as replacement for Anyanwu as national secretary, following the latter’s emergence as candidate in the last Imo gubernatorial election.

However, the former senator, who has continued to insist that he remains national secretary, has filed an appeal before the judgment at the Supreme Court, as well as a motion for stay of execution.

Consequently, Daboikiabo Warmate, who spoke, on behalf of the group, said the BoT ought to have waited for the determination of Anyanwu’s appeal before the Supreme Court, to know who is the rightful national secretary of the party.

Warmate, while insisting that Anyanwu remains the PDP National Secretary, until Supreme Court, rules otherwise, said the latter did not breach any part of the opposition party’s Constitution, before clinching the nomination for the last Imo gubernatorial contest.

He cautioned those, allegedly fanning the embers of discord in the PDP, nothing the group will not allow anyone destabilize the party..

“We commend the disposition of the national chairman and national secretary and the mature manner in which they handle the affairs of the party in this trying times of the party. Nobody can destroy or destabilize PDP.

“We insist that Sen, Samuel Anyanwu remains the authentic PDP National Secretary in line with the party constitution and other existing laws of the land, ” Warmate stated.
