Back Udeh as party’s national secretary

From Paul Osuyi, Asaba

Governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday insisted that the economic policies of the Tinubu administration have succeeded in inflicting untold hardship on Nigerians, maintaining that the administration was yet to record any meaningful or impactful achievement since inception in May 2023. The governors urged the Tinubu-led administration to either revisit or rejig its macro-economic policies to ameliorate the pains of the citizenry. The governors reiterated this call in a communiqué issued at the end of the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting which was held in Asaba, Delta State.

The communiqué was signed by the forum chairman, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, vice chairman, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Dauda Lawal  (Zamfara), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Douye Diri  (Bayelsa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Caleb Mutfwang  (Plateau), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) who hosted the meeting.

Deputy governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal and the Director General of the forum, Emmanuel Agbo were also part of the signatories. On the recent clash over the national secretary position at the meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees in Abuja, the PDP governors threw their weight behind Mr. Sunday Udeh Okoye who has been affirmed by the Court of Appeal as the valid secretary of the party.

“The Forum noted with delight the ongoing efforts at resolving the crisis in the National Working Committee, NWC, on the position of the National Secretary, and has reaffirmed its support for the Court of Appeal judgment; consequently, the Forum advised the NWC to set up the machinery for the effective implementation of the court judgment.

“The Forum having examined all the notices required by law to be given to validly convoke NEC advised NWC to reschedule NEC to the 13th of March 2025,” the communiqué stated.

On security, the governors commended “the country’s valiant and patriotic armed forces and security agencies for maintaining the frontline in securing the country and the gains of our gallant personnel against bandits in parts of the country. The Forum viewed with deep concern, the resurgence of brazen non-state actors. It therefore calls for the strengthening of the nation’s security architecture.

“Finally, the Forum enjoined Nigerians not to despair in the face of the prevailing hardships with the firm assurance that the PDP will remain committed to returning our great nation to the glorious days of pre-2015 era of manageable costs of living, security of lives and property and greater unity and prosperity for all citizens.”
