The National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, Evang. Chinedu Obigwe, has attributed the recent wave of killings in Anambra State to the activities of members of the opposition.
Obigwe, in a statement issued in Awka yesterday, prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims and also prayed that God would give their bereaved families the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. He maintained that the sponsored bloodletting would not take those he described as “disgruntled opposition elements” to Anambra State Government House in 2025.
He disclosed that an activist friend of his had called him after last Monday’s horrific attack in Anambra and told him that he suspected sabotage in the killings because there was no way sponsored killers would have attacked vigilante operatives at Ukpo and Abatete communities, burnt a tanker carrying fuel at Nkwelle Junction by the express, and still zoomed off to an unknown destination without confrontation by security agents.
“What he told me reminded me immediately about the bloodletting we witnessed in Anambra between 2020 and 2021 during the governorship electioneering campaign. At that time, I said it boldly without minding whose ox is gored, that the killings were politically motivated.”
Obigwe said those behind the killings wanted to use it as a rigging strategy because, when they instil fear in the minds of the electorate, they will be scared to come out and vote during the election.
“Such fear will create voter apathy and it will serve as an avenue for the ruling party at the centre to militarise the state and then rig the election. We exposed this evil plan in 2021 and that nipped it in the bud,” he stated.
“The November 8th, 2025 election will hold in 11 months and about 12 days’ time, and the evil-minded opposition elements have resorted to the old strategy of sponsoring bloodletting in Anambra State to create the impression that Anambra is not secure, instil fear in the minds of Anambra electorates, and then pave the way for the militarisation of the state and rigging of the election.”
“Their evil plan will fall like a pack of cards, as usual. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing like unknown gunmen, but sponsored killers, and they are behind yesterday’s attack. All they want to achieve is to dent the image of the working administration of Governor Soludo.”
Obigwe said opposition elements know very well that they have nothing to campaign with in Anambra State, hence their reason for resorting to the wicked act of sponsoring insecurity in the state in a condemnable bid to use it as a campaign tool against Governor Soludo in the forthcoming November 8th, 2025 governorship election.
He expressed confidence that the will of Anambra electorates will triumph over the plans of the disgruntled opposition elements.
He described Governor Soludo as an answered prayer for the Anambra electorate and declared that no amount of politically motivated bloodletting would stop Gov. Soludo from completing his divine mission in the state.
“It happened between 2020 and 2021, but the will of Anambra people still triumphed over the evil plan of disgruntled opposition elements, and it will definitely happen again in 2025,” Obigwe stated.
