Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has described the decision of the party’s Board of Trustees ( BoT) on the leadership of the party as timely.
The BoT, in a read by its chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, berated the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) for repeatedly postponing a meeting of the National Executive Committee ( NEC).
The PDP BoT, while demanding that the party’s NWC respects its Constitution by adhering to zoning of offices to the various geo-political zones, asked the North Central to produce a replacement for the former national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.
The PDP has been embroiled in crisis over Ayu’s . The party’s deputy national chairman, Umar Damagum had taken over the leadership of the party as acting national chairman, after Ayu ‘s ouster.
However, in recent times, there has been controversy on whether Damagum should transmute to a substantive chairman or the North Central should be allowed to produce a national chairman to complete Ayu’s tenure.
Nevertheless, Ologbondiyan, while reacting to the outcome of the BoT meeting, said “t”he decision reached at the meeting of the BoT mandating the North Central geo-political zone of the party to nominate a replacement for Senator Iyorchia Ayu is timely, patriotic, and commendable.
The decision is in consonance with the demand of the North Central Zone, which has consistently agitated that the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Ilyasu Damagum, reverts to his elected position as Deputy National Chairman and allow the North Central to produce a successor.
“This bold and courageous decision of the BoT must be commended by the rank and file of the party.”
