Nigeria’s Security Challenges Substantially Decimated Under Tinubu Administration – NSA Ribadu
Federal Government and Security Services Make Significant Progress
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has revealed that the Federal Government and security agencies have made substantial progress in addressing the multi-faceted security challenges inherited by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Containing Major Security Threats
Speaking at the APC National Summit marking two years of the Tinubu administration, Ribadu stated that through combined security efforts, atrocities including mass killings, wanton destruction, mass abductions, and terrorist attacks on government installations have been effectively contained.
Inherited Security Crises
The NSA outlined five major security crises the administration inherited:
- Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast
- Armed banditry in the Northwest
- Secessionist agitations by IPOB/ESN in the Southeast
- Niger Delta unrest
- Communal conflicts and herder-farmer clashes, particularly in the North Central region
Significant Achievements
Ribadu highlighted several key achievements:
- 13,543 Boko Haram elements neutralized in the past two years
- Over 11,000 arms recovered and destroyed from terrorists
- 124,408 Boko Haram fighters and their families surrendered to troops
- Substantial resolution of sit-at-home orders in the Southeast
- Reduced sabotage of oil installations in the Niger Delta
Ongoing Operations
The NSA acknowledged that despite these successes, security operations continue in strategic locations including the Tumbuktu Triangle and Tumbu islands to completely eliminate remaining insurgent elements.
Political Support
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended President Tinubu for strengthening internal security, noting that terrorist groups no longer control territories or hoist flags in Nigeria. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, speaking on behalf of 22 APC governors, moved a vote of confidence in the President’s leadership.
