A group, Arewa Consensus for Jonathan has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for president in 2027.

The National Coordinator of the group, Manniru Musa Yisin, made the call in a press briefing held at the NUJ Secretariat, Bauchi on Sunday.

The group formally inaugurated Operation Save Nigeria, code-named the AC-Jonathan2027 Project to galvanise Nigerians to support the presidency of Jonathan.

Yasin argued that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has worsened the plight of the majority of Nigerians.

“We are a coalition of patriotic groups and individuals across the length and breadth of northern Nigeria who come together in order to save the country from the current socioeconomic peril,” he stated.

“It is in line with this goal that we gather here today to call on the former president to declare his interest to run again for president.

“In the same vein, we are calling on all well-meaning Nigerians, home and abroad, to join us in our efforts to drag the tested and trusted gentleman back into the ring and also to rally around him until he successfully returns to the State House in the next presidential election.

“To that end, we wish to announce that AC-Jonathan is embarking on a Rescue Nigeria project codenamed AC-Jonathan2027.

“The object of this project is to get the former president re-elected as the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the year 2027

Yasin said the group unanimously agreed to urge Jonathan to run because of his track record of outstanding leadership qualities as president

He argued that the reign of Jonathan was characterized by people-centred policies and great achievements.

The AC-Jonathan2027 National Coordinator credited Jonathan for rebasing the Nigerian economy and stabilizing the naira, thereby cementing the unity of the country.

He opined that Jonathan’s administration improved the citizens’ standard of living

Yasin said Jonathan’s policies heavily benefitted the north, especially as they were aimed at checking the challenges of human capital deficits in the region.
