Nigerian Troops Rescue 12-Year-Old Boy Sold Into Captivity Three Years Ago in Plateau State
Jos, Nigeria – In a significant breakthrough, troops from Nigeria’s 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have successfully rescued a 12-year-old boy who had been sold into captivity by his uncle three years ago in Plateau State.
Dramatic Rescue Operation
The rescue operation, which took place on July 22, 2025, was disclosed by Major Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, during a press briefing in Jos. According to military officials, the minor was recovered during a raid on criminal hideouts in Riyom Local Government Area.
“Our troops conducted targeted operations based on credible intelligence,” Major Zhakom explained. “During these operations, we discovered the young boy who had been missing for three years.”
Shocking Family Betrayal
Investigations revealed the disturbing circumstances of the boy’s disappearance. “The victim was actually sold by his own uncle three years ago,” Major Zhakom stated. “While the uncle remains at large, we’re intensifying efforts to bring him to justice.”
The military has since handed over the rescued minor to the Councilor representing Zamko Ward of Langtang North LGA, who will facilitate his reunion with immediate family members.
Related Security Breakthroughs
In a separate but related development, troops operating in Wase Local Government Area recovered significant arms cache during counter-banditry operations.
“Acting on credible intelligence about armed bandits operating along Kampani-Kombodoro road, our troops set up an ambush near Jeb Community,” Major Zhakom detailed. “The ensuing engagement forced the criminals to flee, abandoning their weapons.”
Weapons Recovered
The security forces recovered:
- 1 AK-47 rifle
- 2 AK-47 magazines
- 5 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition
“These recovered items are now in military custody for forensic examination and further action,” the spokesperson confirmed. “Our troops continue to pursue the fleeing bandits to ensure complete security in the area.”
Ongoing Security Operations
The successful operations highlight the Nigerian military’s intensified efforts to combat human trafficking and banditry in Plateau State and surrounding regions. Security analysts note that these developments come amid broader counter-insurgency operations across Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.
Human rights organizations have commended the rescue while calling for thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s sale. “This case underscores the need for stronger child protection laws and enforcement,” commented a local child rights advocate.
The military has assured residents of continued operations to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region, urging communities to provide timely intelligence to security agencies.
