Military Intensifies Efforts to Secure Farming Corridors, Combat Insurgency
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that Nigerian troops, in collaboration with hybrid forces and other security agencies, have sustained offensive operations across all theaters to create safe corridors for farming activities. This development comes as part of efforts to boost food production and ensure national food security.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that these operations align with President Bola Tinubu’s directive on food security. He reiterated the military’s unwavering commitment under the leadership of Gen. Christopher Musa to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protect citizens from security threats.
Key Operations and Achievements
“The military launched several key operations during the week with renewed vigor aimed at combating insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of criminal activities,” Kangye stated. “These operations are strategically designed to ensure the safety of our people and the restoration of peace in affected regions.”
Between May 8 and May 15, troops achieved significant milestones including:
- Destruction of multiple terrorists’ camps
- Rescue of kidnapped victims
- Rehabilitation of conflict-affected civilians
- Neutralization of scores of terrorists
Notable Arrests and Recoveries
The operations led to the apprehension of two wanted extremists informants and logistics suppliers – Zakari Abubakar and Aliyu Musa – in Niger State. Additionally, troops captured an ammunition courier, Rufai Abdullahi, in the FCT’s Gwagwalada Area Council.

- Arms and ammunition
- Locally fabricated guns
- Motorcycles and vehicles
- Pumping and drilling machines
- Mobile phones
Regional Successes
North East: Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralized terrorists in Borno State, rescuing 17 kidnapped victims and recovering weapons including hand grenades.
North West: Operation Fansan Yamma operatives eliminated scores of terrorists and rescued 129 victims across Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
Niger Delta: Operation Delta Safe foiled oil theft worth over ₦103 million, destroying illegal refining infrastructure including 16 crude oil cooking ovens and 19 boats.
Kangye praised the troops’ courage and professionalism, while acknowledging local communities’ cooperation in intelligence gathering efforts. The military remains committed to sustaining these operations to ensure national security and economic stability.
