NDLEA Seizes N2.6 Billion Worth of Illegal Drugs in Jigawa, Arrests Three Suspects
Major Drug Bust in Northern Nigeria
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking, confiscating illegal substances worth over N2.6 billion in Jigawa State. The operation, which also extended to Kano State, represents one of the agency’s most substantial seizures in recent times.
Operation Details and Arrests
During the carefully planned operation in Gumel, NDLEA officers intercepted two vehicles—a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater Hummer bus—transporting large quantities of narcotics. The agency arrested three suspects identified as:
- Jamilu Muhammad
- Abba Ibrahim
- Shuaibu Umar
The drugs, which included substantial amounts of Tramadol tablets and Pregabalin Capsules, were reportedly being transported to multiple destinations across northern Nigeria and even to the Niger Republic.
Intelligence-Led Operation
Musa Maina, NDLEA Commander for Jigawa State, emphasized that the successful operation resulted from meticulous intelligence gathering. “The operation was planned for a long time and was successful due to intelligence gathering,” Maina stated, highlighting this as one of the agency’s major achievements in combating drug trafficking in the region.
Ongoing Investigations
The arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as authorities work to uncover the broader network behind this large-scale drug trafficking operation. The NDLEA has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing all individuals involved in the illicit drug trade.
“NDLEA would not relent in its efforts to combat drug trafficking, and our commitment to fighting drug trafficking is evident in its actions,” Commander Maina declared, signaling the agency’s determination to maintain pressure on drug cartels operating in Nigeria.
As investigations continue, the NDLEA has vowed to ensure all those involved face the full consequences of the law, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance against drug-related crimes in the country.
