The state chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) in the North Central geopolitical zone have inaugurated their respective Directorates of Mobilisation and Integration Committees as part of efforts to boost party membership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This initiative aligns with the directive of the National Chairman of the LP, Barr. Julius Abure, who has set a target of registering no fewer than 20 million new members before the next general elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Vice-Chairman of the Labour Party (North Central), Comrade Ibrahim Idoko, described the inaugurations, held across North Central states on Friday, as peaceful and well-coordinated. According to him, the events followed directives from the party’s National Headquarters, with state chairmen reading the National Chairman’s speech on his behalf.
Quoting Barr. Abure, Idoko said:
“I think that the fire brigade approach adopted by the party in the 2023 general election can obviously be avoided. I believe strongly that if we start planning from now for the 2027 general election, it will be better for the party and for all those who truly and really want a New Nigeria.”
He added:
“I must say for certain that a New Nigeria will not be possible without a strong and virile political party whose structure is strong enough to withstand, fight, and defend our votes and what the New Nigeria stands for. It is therefore imperative that we must continue to rebuild our party, restructure it, and make it stronger so that we can indeed achieve a Nigeria of our dreams.”
The National Chairman emphasised the importance of collective participation, stating:
“All those persons who are in Labour Party but are not courageous enough to bring their friends, relations, and followers to be members of the Labour Party, yet want to use the platform of the party to win elections, need to have a rethink.”
Idoko also announced the appointments of state coordinators and secretaries for the Directorates, including John Kwaghza and Agada Onu for Benue; Kenneth Sunday and Andy Alagbaoso for FCT Abuja; Philip Yakubu-Pam and Nura Tanko for Plateau; Ablaku Anthony and Musa Mohammed for Nasarawa; and Hon. Ibrahim Sanusi for Kogi State.
He urged the committees and party faithful to remain loyal to the leadership of Barr. Julius Abure and maintain discipline while working towards achieving the party’s membership target.
“I have confidence that with the inauguration of these Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration Committees in the North Central geopolitical zone of the country, our party will win future elections with a landslide because I strongly believe in the capacities of everyone in the team to deliver,” the statement added.
