The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has denied entering into a power sharing agreement with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, his counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (APC).
Kwankwaso debunked the rumours in an interview with BBC.
Social media reports indicated that the former Kano governor had agreed to serve as president for only four years.
Kwankwaso’s term, according to the reports, would be preceded by Atiku’s four-year single term and succeeded by Obi’s two terms of eight years.
The 2023 NNPP candidate said he was unaware of such claim but had been informed that Atiku’s camp had been meeting with regional leaders, including clerics, to propagate the narrative.
He said, “This issue deeply angers me—to hear that respected elders are spreading lies about something that never happened. I was told that nearly 45 clerics were gathered and informed about this fabricated story. I did not appreciate this at all.
“They were told that I had agreed to a deal where Atiku would serve for four years, I would serve for another four years, and Peter Obi would serve for eight years. This is completely false; such an agreement never existed.”
He said he left the PDP for the NNPP because of deceit and humiliation in the PDP and has never regretted the decision.
“Such lies and deceit are precisely why we left. Myself, Peter Obi, Wike, and others all left. Now they are coming back, asking us to help those who humiliated us to achieve their goals,” Kwankwaso said.
