Kano Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing of Resident and Lynching of Robbery Suspects
Two Separate Violent Incidents Rock Kwalwa Quarters
The Kano State Police Command has launched parallel investigations into two violent incidents that occurred within days of each other in Kwalwa Quarters, Kano Municipal Local Government Area. The cases – one involving the fatal stabbing of a resident and another concerning the lynching of alleged robbery suspects – have sent shockwaves through the community.
Brutal Attack Claims Life of Sadiq Gentle
In the first incident on August 4, 2025, unidentified assailants invaded the residence of Sadiq Shu’aibu, popularly known as Sadiq Gentle. The attackers stabbed the victim multiple times before making off with his valuables. Despite being rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Sadiq succumbed to his injuries three days later on August 7.
Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed that detectives are pursuing all leads in what appears to be a targeted attack. “The Command is working assiduously to ensure the perpetrators face justice,” Kiyawa stated, appealing to residents with relevant information to come forward.
Home Invasion Turns Deadly
The second violent episode unfolded in the early hours of August 3 when 24-year-old Mas’ud Dahiru allegedly broke into the home of Musa Hassan in the same neighborhood. According to police reports, Dahiru attempted to stab Hassan’s wife before being confronted by their 18-year-old son, Muhammad Musa.
“During the struggle, the suspect stabbed the young man on his back and face,” Kiyawa explained. The commotion alerted neighbors who apprehended Dahiru and his alleged accomplice, 38-year-old Alhaji Haruna. Both suspects sustained severe injuries from mob violence before police intervention.
Aftermath of Vigilante Justice
Medical personnel at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital pronounced Dahiru dead upon arrival, while Haruna and the injured Muhammad Musa were admitted for treatment. The police have initiated what they describe as “an impartial investigation” to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the violent confrontation.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has personally assured residents of transparent inquiries into both cases. “The Command remains committed to maintaining law and order while protecting lives and property across the state,” Bakori emphasized during a press briefing.
Community on Edge
These back-to-back violent incidents have left Kwalwa Quarters residents anxious about security in their neighborhood. Local shopkeeper Aminu Bello told our correspondent, “We’ve never experienced such brutality here before. Everyone is locking their doors earlier now.”
Security analysts suggest the cases highlight growing concerns about both criminal activity and vigilante justice in urban areas. “While citizens have a right to self-defense, mob actions complicate police investigations,” noted criminology expert Dr. Fatima Abubakar from Bayero University Kano.
Police Appeal for Calm and Cooperation
The police have urged residents to report suspicious activities through their emergency lines (08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926) rather than taking matters into their own hands. “Community policing works best when citizens partner with law enforcement professionally,” SP Kiyawa advised.
As investigations continue, authorities have increased patrols in Kwalwa Quarters and surrounding areas. The police promise regular updates as they work to unravel the circumstances behind these tragic events that have left one family mourning and another facing uncertain legal consequences.
