Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that political adversity experienced by Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara will turn him into a “general” in politics.

Jonathan said this on Sunday at the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art and Culture Exhibition held at Nihi Community in Etche LGA of Rivers State, where Fubara also bagged the chieftaincy title Eze Udo 1 of Etche land.

Fubara has been embroiled in a running battle with his predecessor and current Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The Rivers governor narrowly survived an impeachment plot by the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly which is loyal to Wike.

Speaking on Sunday, Jonathan urged Fubara not to succumb to the political hurdles and charged Rivers people to support the governor.

He said, “I know you are passing through challenges, and at occasions like these, I try to keep quiet. I don’t like to say certain things.

“But this is the first time you are holding a top political office. You will pass through a lot. And just know that nobody becomes a General without fighting wars.

“So, whatever challenges you are meeting now is baking you to be a General in politics. And with your total commitment and with the support I have seen from the people of Rivers State, God will surely see you through.”
