Governor Otti Vows to Respond to Critics with Performance, Not Words

Abia Governor Highlights Infrastructure Achievements at “Promise Kept Carnival”

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has declared his administration’s commitment to responding to opposition critics through tangible results rather than verbal exchanges. The governor made these remarks during the “Promise Kept Carnival” held at Umuagbai Secondary School in Aba on Thursday.

Port Harcourt Road Completion: A Milestone Achievement

The event celebrated the completion of the long-abandoned Port Harcourt Road, a project that had remained unfinished for over 30 years. Governor Otti used the occasion to contrast his administration’s achievements with those of previous governments.

“We have always ignored them. And we have continued to ignore them. We respond with performance,” Otti stated, addressing his critics.

Revealing Previous Administration’s Failed Contract

The governor disclosed that the previous administration had awarded the same road project in 2017 for N9.8 billion but failed to deliver it despite full payment. “In 2017, they awarded this Port Harcourt Road. The amount at that time was N9.8 billion. And they paid out the entire money. But the road was not done,” he revealed.

Otti highlighted that his administration completed the project for N36.5 billion in 2025, which actually represented better value when considering exchange rates. “In dollar terms, the old contract cost $29 million, while our project cost $22.8 million. USD29 million and USD22 million, which one is higher?” he asked rhetorically.

Electric Buses and Infrastructure Development

The governor also announced significant transportation investments, including the purchase of 20 electric buses and construction of modern bus terminals in Aba and Umuahia. “These buses will not use petrol, diesel, or gasoline. They will be electric buses,” he assured attendees.

Rewarding Honesty in the Community

During the event, Governor Otti recognized and rewarded a tricycle driver who returned N2.4 million to its rightful owner with a cash prize of N1.4 million, praising the individual’s exemplary honesty.
