Delta Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Recover N900,000 Ransom
26-Year-Old Suspect Apprehended After Months of Terrorizing Communities
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 26-year-old Lawal Tasiu, a suspected kidnapper allegedly involved in criminal activities in Itego Community, Ibusa area of the state.
According to police reports, the suspect had been terrorizing the Ibusa/Ogwashi-Uku/Issele-Azagba environs for several months before his eventual capture by security agents.
Police Commissioner Reveals Arrest Details
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, disclosed during a press briefing on Thursday that the suspect was arrested on May 12, 2025, following a hot chase operation.
Authorities recovered N900,000 believed to be part of ransom money collected from victims’ families. The police chief stated: “Acting on credible intelligence relating to a kidnap incident at Itego Community, Ibusa, where one man was kidnapped and ransom was paid, our operatives swiftly mobilized and arrested the suspect at Koka Junction, Asaba.”
Weapons and Additional Evidence Recovered
The suspect reportedly led police to their hideout where authorities recovered:
- 1 AK-47 rifle
- 1 pump-action gun
- 2 AK-47 magazines
- 87 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
During interrogation, Tasiu confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate operating in the area and admitted the recovered money was his share of ransom payments.
