The Vice Chancellor of Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, has flagged off a free health outreach for staff and students of the university.
The outreach is part of activities heralding the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th Combined Convocation ceremonies of the university, which will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Iorapuu, who was the first to be attended to in order to commence the medical checks, invited the university community to take advantage of the outreach programme to assess their health and take care of their well-being.
The VC, who noted that health is key, said, “I invite all of us to take advantage. In the last one and a half weeks, I have tested my BP several times. It was 120 two days ago and 140 today. We need to check ourselves regularly so we don’t go above the limit. When it’s above, and you need to slow down, you know and do so.
“Feel free and enjoy the services. This is what the university is bringing to the community. It’s our community outreach, our way of inviting our friends, students, and staff to come and enjoy the services of our university.”
Welcoming the medical team and members of the BSU community, the Director of Health Services, Dr. Livinus Egwuda, assured them of the team’s commitment to attending to their health needs.
He said the VC had given the team the mandate to carry out the outreach free of charge.
He told the community, “You are expected to go through clinical assessment, laboratory assessment, and pick up your drugs. If there is a need for an X-ray, it will also be done free of charge in the school facility, as it is one of the best in Nigeria.”
He urged them to be patient, as the team would not leave until they had seen the last patient, and commended the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, for making the outreach possible.
